Description
Reporting to the Head Men’s and Women’s Basketball Coaches, the Special Assistant is responsible for assisting the Head Coaches to ensure the program’s success as directly related to the recruitment, retention, and conduct of the student-athletes as well as their success in the classroom and in competition. As all staff members are responsible for the policy, procedures and guidelines of the University, the Special Assistant to the Head Men’s and Women’s Basketball Coaches must also directly report to the Head Coaches and follow the job requirements specific to the assignments inherent to athletic administration. This position requires working weekends and holidays, as well as attending athletic events as appropriate.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Manages all recruiting email correspondence from prospective student-athletes interested in playing basketball at Hofstra University.
- Coordinates official and unofficial visits, including hotel, flight, and entertainment arrangements.
- Supports student-athletes in balancing academic responsibilities with athletic commitments.
- Monitors strength and conditioning schedules during both in-season and offseason periods.
- Handles public relations by organizing team participation in on-campus, alumni, and booster events; attends media day, picture day, and promotional activities such as poster and brochure campaigns.
- Organizes marketing and promotional efforts, including pregame clinics for local community groups (e.g., CYO teams) at home games.
- Plans and schedules for community service projects on a weekly or monthly basis to extend the team’s reach beyond campus.
- Produces and distributes the Hofstra Basketball Newsletter weekly during the season and monthly during the offseason.
- Encourages campus involvement by promoting attendance at other athletic events to foster program-wide support.
- All staff members are responsible for complying with the policies and procedures set forth by Hofstra University, the Coastal Athletic Association, the NCAA and the job requirements specific to the particular assignments inherent to athletic administration.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
This is a fixed-term position with a duration of one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum of 1 to 3 years of relevant coaching experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree preferred.
- 3-5 years’ experience working with a collegiate Basketball program.
