POSITION SUMMARY: The men’s basketball assistant coach will assist the head coach in providing an environment for the men’s basketball team members to grow spiritually, socially, and physically as the team pursues competitive excellence while abiding by the University mission to grow Christlike character.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate is of necessity a male and will serve as a role model while providing Biblically based counseling and discipleship to team members and act as “liaison” between coach and team. Of utmost importance is the loyalty to the head coach and program above personal or “outside” agendas. While knowledge and experience of the game is secondary to the counseling role, the candidate is expected to be knowledgeable of the game of basketball so some playing and/or coaching experience is required, college level preferred. The candidate must be willing to learn and then teach the game of basketball in accordance to the strategy of the head coach. Bachelor’s degree required, master’s preferred.
Specific Duties
- Attend all practices and games; some overnight travel will occur. Conduct segments of practice as planned with the head coach
- Monitor details of game management
- Drive school vehicles as needed
- Serve as a positive ambassador for the team to parents, officials, opposing teams, and prospective players
- Conduct pre and post season workout and open gym sessions
- Manage prospect relationships and attend recruiting-related events
- Other duties as assigned
