The University of Virginia is a highly competitive Division I program committed to academic and athletic excellence. The Department of Athletics at the University of Virginia is now accepting applications for the position of Director of Digital Strategy to support the Creative Services, Virginia Sports Properties, and all external operational units. The Director of Digital Strategy will lead the department's social and digital strategy in the administration of official accounts to drive revenue through sponsor fulfillment, branding, and fan engagement. The Director will supervise the administration of the main social accounts across all digital platforms for VirginiaSports, provide guidance and supervision for all other official athletic accounts, and collaborate with external groups in the execution of social media campaigns with a focus on revenue generation, sponsorship fulfillment, and organizational communication.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee and administer all official VirginiaSports accounts including scheduled and spontaneous content creation and posting.
- Be a valuable resource for creative solutions and communications in developing and executing social and digital strategy for all other official Virginia Athletics accounts.
- Develop and manage digital content calendar for use across external units to maximize engagement and fulfill contracted sponsorship and revenue opportunities.
- Assist Athletics Creative Services content creators in both content creation and quality control of distributed creative assets.
- Supervise Assistant Director of Digital Content and Strategy in creation and distribution of digital assets and copy.
- Establish Key Performance Indicators for social media, analyze and communicate KPI results on a regular basis to the external communications team, and build strategies to improve on KPIs over time.
- Collaborates and communicates extensively with Virginia Athletic Communications to execute social media campaigns that require inter-departmental coordination.
- Coordinate and supervise student programs for in-game coverage of events
- Facilitates the capture and production of photo, video, and design to support creative content plans, with a primary objective of keeping the University of Virginia’s content on the cutting edge of collegiate social content creation.
- Leads social media committee that establishes best practices and advances collaboration across departments for external social communication.
- Monitor social media platform developments to ensure the University of Virginia stays on the leading edge of social platform trends and best practices for content creation and fan engagement across social and digital media environments.
- Serve as liaison to UVA’s NIL working group to lead educational social media branding and strategy sessions annually with student-athletes
- Other duties as assigned

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Extensive Experience in creative content project management
- Extensive experience in creation and organization of campaign calendars
- Impeccable communication and attention to detail in communication across a diverse range of constituents
- Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment or individually with a self-starter’s initiative.
- Ability to work non-standard hours and travel.
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment with rapid project turnover time.
- Experience developing and cultivating brand identity with a robust social presence.
Minimum requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree.
Experience: Three years' experience in social media strategy, content creation, and athletic communications.
Prior experience in project management and revenue generating campaign planning and execution.
Preferred qualifications
- 4-5 years of relevant experience in social media/digital strategy and multimedia content creation.
- Prior experience working with collegiate and/or professional sports organizations in social media and digital content creation.
- Background in photography, video production, and/or graphic design.
- Passion in creative innovation and an understanding of current creative trends.
- Experience in leveraging analytic systems in developing marketing and/or communication plans.
- Experience working in collegiate and/or professional sport.
- Experience in creative software (Adobe After Effects, Premiere, Media Encoder, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.).
