Summary

The University of Michigan is currently inviting applications for a 6-month Post-Graduate Athletic Training Fellowship with an immediate start date, which can be renewed for another term. Additionally, we are also accepting applications for six to seven 12-month Post-Graduate Athletic Training Fellowship positions, starting in June 2024. This fellowship program aims to prepare athletic trainers for advanced clinical practice by utilizing an interdisciplinary model and evidence-based practice concepts. The program also focuses on improving the quality of healthcare for student-athletes, optimizing their outcomes, and promoting their health, welfare, and lifetime wellness.

The University of Michigan Athletic Training Fellowship provides an excellent opportunity for licensed athletic training practitioners to advance their clinical practice skills and become future leaders in the field of sports medicine. The program offers clinical education opportunities, free CEU's, dedicated sport assignments, which expose fellows to multidisciplinary settings of clinical practice, interprofessional education (IPE), and research. The program also focuses on the administrative and interpersonal growth and development of the fellows through a micromentorship program.

• Collaborative Interdisciplinary Care Within a Sports Performance Model

• Performance Nutrition Concepts
• Athletic Counseling and Mental Health
• Strength and Conditioning Skills, and Techniques
• Concussion Prevention, Recognition and Evaluation, Testing, and Management
• Movement Screening, Corrective Exercise, Athlete Biometric Assessment, and Performance Analytics

Clinical Environment:

• Autonomous athletic team care, coverage, and travel

Compensation:

• $39,400.00 (12 month fellowship term June 2024 - June 2025)  
• Immediate Hire (Prorated based on start date (fellowship term ending June 2024)

Required Qualifications*

• Masters' Degree in Athletic Training or a related field
• Current certification by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC)
• Current or be eligible for licensure as an athletic trainer within the State of Michigan
• Current CPR and AED certification 
• Appropriate training and adherence to common regulatory requirements of healthcare providers (e.g. OSHA, HIPAA, etc.)
• Appropriate training and knowledge of medical documentation and electronic medical records
• Ability to stand for long periods of time, and lift heavy objects such as coolers and medical kits

Background Screening

The University of Michigan conducts background checks on all job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background checks.  Background checks are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Job openings are posted for a minimum of 7 calendar days. The review and selection process may begin as early as the 8th day after posting. Selection Process

Application Procedures: 

• Applicants should submit applications by October 25th and indicate interest in the immediate position in their cover letter.  
• To be considered for the 12-month fellowship starting in June 2024, applicants must mention their interest in the fellowship in their cover letter. The deadline for submitting the applications is February 1st, 2024. The fellowship committee will not be reaching out to any candidates until after the aforementioned deadline.
• The interview process will involve a three step interview process.
  • A 30 minute zoom socialization interview
  • A 60 minute formal zoom interview  
  • An on-campus group formal interview with the entire staff
• Qualified applicants will be subject to a background check and may be required to travel to Ann Arbor, MI for an on campus interview.
