Salary Range: $55,000 to $62,000

 

The University of St. Thomas has provided a salary range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The specific salary offered will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.

 

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Head Women’s Basketball Coach, this position is responsible for, but not limited to: recruitment, video analysis, skill development of student athletes, game/ practice planning & instruction, scouting, program social media strategy and day to day program administrative duties. Specific emphasis on recruiting and player instruction. This position will work collaboratively with Head Coach and women’s basketball staff in developing a competitive Division 1 program.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Recruiting
Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes - local, regional, national, and international.  Establish and cultivate relationships with high school coaches and AAU programs. Participate in the planning and execution of unofficial and official recruiting visits. Maintain and manage recruiting logs and contact dates/times.

 

Student-Athlete skill development, technique & mentorship
Assist in the instruction, assessment, and growth of women’s basketball student-athlete skill development. Responsible for player development scope & sequence. Assist in implementation and management of academic progress. Serve as active participate in student-athlete progress off the court in a holistic approach including, but not limited to professional development, community service engagement and life skills.

 

Administrative
Organize team travel including - ground transportation, lodging and meals. Work collaboratively with head coach, equipment manager and vendor on team equipment ordering. Contribute to the management and requesting of program annual operating budget. Plan, coordinate and establish initial contact for program future scheduling.

 

Program Marketing & Social Media
Purposefully manage and execute all program social media content and delivery. Establish Work in partnership with external affairs administration to align with Intercollegiate Athletics over-arching strategic goals and initiatives related to social media.  Focus on alumni communication and engagement opportunities.

 

Game and Practice Planning
Organize, administer, and demonstrate all aspects of team practice. Assist in practice and game strategy including opponent scouting. Prepare for games involving video breakdown and analysis. Maintain practice records in accordance with NCAA and conference guidelines.

 

Other duties as assigned by head coach

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

 

• Bachelor’s degree
• Five years of relevant sports experience either playing and/or coaching and recruiting at the collegiate level

Preferred Qualifications

• Division 1 coaching experience
• A Master’s degree and knowledge of NCAA and conference compliance rules and regulations

• Knowledge: Knowledge of NCAA and conference compliance rules and regulations.  The use of technology and software related to the work to include Microsoft Office Suite, social media tools, Vision, and XOS. 

• Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and work effectively within all levels of an organization. Demonstrated strong interpersonal relationship skills.  The ability to work with student-athletes, coaches, peers, staff, and administrative personnel. Gathering, preparing, and presenting scouting materials. Compiling and maintaining statistical information.  Supervising student workers and other ancillary personnel. Promoting the core values and strategic goals of intercollegiate athletics. 

• Abilities: The ability to mentor student athletes to foster athletic, academic, emotional, and social growth. The ability to provide outstanding customer service to both internal and external constituents. The ability to work nights and weekends.

An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may be substituted.  

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

The ability to work in and move about an office and an athletic facility setting, ability to perform the duties of an assistant basketball coach in a fast-pace and high energetic environment. The ability to lift equipment weighing up to fifty pounds. The ability to read printed materials and a computer screen. The ability to communicate in person and over the telephone.
