Job Description:

Longwood University invites applications for the position of Assistant Coach, Men's and Women's Cross Country / Track and Field / Education Support Specialist II (T0003).

This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University's campus.

Responsibilities:

As Assistant Coach, Men's and Women's Cross Country / Track and Field / Education Support Specialist II, he or she will provide assistance to the head coach as directed. Specific duties may include, but are not necessarily limited to the following:

• Assist with teaching the sports of cross country and track and field to student-athletes at Longwood University
• Assist with the evaluation, recruitment, and retention of cross country/track and field athletes at Longwood University
• Assist in meeting the recruitment and retention goals set and assessed annually
• Assist in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes in accordance with the guidelines of the Big South Conference and NCAA Division I
• Knowledge and experience working with athletes in relays, sprints, jump, and hurdles
• Assist with the daily planning, organization, and supervision of practices and competitions
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred
• Effective experience as a college or university cross country/track and field coach
• USATF or other certifications are preferred but not required
• Knowledge of principles, methods, and techniques associated with cross country/track and field
• Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, and evaluate complex tasks and procedures
• Excellent communication, organization, and supervision skills
• Must be able to meet the university eligibility requirements to drive fleet vehicles, including passenger vans and/or mini-buses
• Must be able to perform physical activities associated with the sport of cross country/track and field
• Must have a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record

Additional Information:

This is a part-time, temporary wage, non-exempt position in a pay band 3, limited to an average of 29 hours per week and 1500 hours maximum per work year. Commonwealth of Virginia benefits do not accompany this position. A successful fingerprint-based criminal background investigation is required.
