Overview
A sports marketing internship with the Augustana University Athletics Department offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience within an NCAA Division I and II athletic department. With 22 collegiate sports, this internship is designed to promote both Augustana Athletics and the university as a whole. Interns will gain valuable insights into the inner workings of marketing in a collegiate athletic setting, providing practical experience in various aspects of sports marketing.
This position is an unpaid position that is meant to be paired with a course for earned credit at Augustana or another higher education institution.
Duties include, but are not limited to
- Assist in the planning and execution of special events, sporting event preparation, in-game entertainment, and sport-specific game scripts.
- Execute promotions, develop gameday promotions for various sports, and contribute to increasing fan and student attendance and enhancing the game-day atmosphere.
- Collaborate on creating graphic designs and managing social media content to engage fans and promote the athletics department.
- Assist in the management and fulfillment of sponsorships, ensuring proper implementation of signage and other inventory, and contributing to sponsorship pitch creation.

- Work closely with the athletic administrative team to assist with operational needs, including general departmental operations and game-day responsibilities such as venue set-up, fan engagement, and supervising student and game-day workers.
- Maintain professionalism in all interactions, dress appropriately for office hours and game days, and represent Augustana University positively.
- Interns must be available to work assigned events, including evenings, weekends, and some holiday breaks.
- Manage a variety of community involvement events Augustana Athletics runs throughout the year.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
- Current undergraduate student at Augustana University.
- Strong communication (written and verbal), organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Suite.
- Ability to communicate effectively with university constituents and external supporters.
- Flexibility to travel and work nights and weekends as needed.
- Self-starter with enthusiasm to make a positive impact.
- Adaptable and able to handle changes in a dynamic environment.
- Willingness to learn and contribute to various aspects of athletic operations.
- General knowledge of sports and administrative operations is appreciated.
- Ability to work closely with coaches, administration, and student-athletes in a positive manner.
