Job Description:
Wittenberg University is seeking applications for a Head Coach for a new Varsity Club Men's and Women's Ice Hockey program. This is a full-time, 12-month position reporting to the Vice President and Director of Athletics. The Head Coach will lead all aspects of varsity women's and men's Ice Hockey program.
Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
- Adhere to and enforce all policies and procedures as stated in Wittenberg's athletics department, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.
- Recruit, retain, and monitor student-athletes who are academically prepared for the academic demands required of students at Wittenberg University.
- Coach the team during practices and games, team and travel supervision, and recruit student-athletes.
- Maintain budgetary responsibilities, review budget summary, and operate within budget constraints. Coordinate all expenditures and commitments with division leadership to ensure fund approval and availability.
- Oversee and monitor all budgeting, operational, fundraising, and camp accounts.
- Adhere to departmental procedures relative to purchasing and travel expenditures.
- Coordinate current and future competition schedules with the Director of Athletics & Recreation.
- Schedule facilities as needed with the athletic facilities staff.
- Coordinate all practices and competition schedules with appropriate agencies for academic class time and the use of Wittenberg facilities.
- Coordinate, attend, and supervise all daily practice sessions, workouts, team travel, and contests.
- Ensure that all practices are conducted in a professional manner according to Wittenberg and NCAA time requirements.
- Maintain and have thorough knowledge of NCAA, ACHA, conference, and institutional rules and regulations.
- Report any alleged violations of NCAA, NCAC, ACHA, or institutional rules and regulations.
- Assign coaching responsibilities for all practices and sport contests. Assign and supervise duties for assistant coaches if applicable and perform annual written evaluations of assistant coaches. The head coach is directly responsible for the actions of each assigned assistant and volunteer coach.
- Monitor and submit all work study hours of student employees and contracts.
- Speak to service groups and alumni organizations as assigned.
- Attend all staff meetings and departmental luncheons.
- Provide an opportunity for annual evaluations with student-athletes.
Perform other duties as assigned such as special projects, programs, developmental activities, etc.
Requirements:
A bachelor's degree and extensive and advance level coaching experience and or/ skill development are required. A master's degree is preferred.
Candidates must:
- Possess excellent organizational and communication skills
- Be able to interact effectively and appropriately with student-athletes, parents, alumni, faculty, peers, community members, and administrators
- Possess the skills to evaluate prospects, maintain and ensure student-athlete academic integrity
- Demonstrate a commitment to the mission and values of Wittenberg University and Division III
- Comply with NCAA, conference, and university rules and regulations.
- Ability to remain in a stationary position for several hours.
- Ability to use technology such as computer, table, and/or phone.
- Ability to transport up to 50 pounds (with assistance).
The successful candidate will be proficient with ARI, Slate, HUDL, Microsoft office, and social media platforms.
A valid driver's license is required; must meet required insurance qualifications found in Wittenberg Motor Pool policies and procedures. If license is from out of state, successful candidate will need to obtain a valid Ohio driver's license within 30 days of hire date.
Ability to travel and to work nights and weekends is required.
