Head Coach - Strength and Conditioning

JOB SUMMARYÂ Â

The Head Strength and Conditioning Coach is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive strength, speed, agility, and conditioning program for all athletic teams. This role emphasizes athlete performance enhancement, injury prevention, and safe training practices while fostering discipline, teamwork, and a culture of excellence. The coach will collaborate closely with sport coaches, athletic trainers, and other performance staff to tailor programs to each sportâs unique demands and individual student-athlete needs. Administrative duties include scheduling, budget management, equipment maintenance, and compliance with all institutional expectations.Â

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS Â

Reports to: Assistant AD for Sports Medicine

Supervisory Responsibility: Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach, interns (2)Â

Indirect Supervisory Responsibility: N/A

ESSENTIAL DUTIES - May include, but is not limited to the following:Â

In conjunction with the Assistant AD for Sports Medicine and working with head coaches, develop and implement sport-specific strength and conditioning programs for 20 intercollegiate athletic teams so that the needs of each athlete and team are met.
Possess a wide array of knowledge for a multitude of sports to be able to implement programs for all athletic teams individualized to their specific needs.
Demonstrate proper performance of exercises, ensuring proper execution by clientele for both efficiency and safety; manage programs by monitoring progress and providing assessment tools for development.
Recruit, hire, and evaluate S&C interns as well as assign sport coverage between director and two current graduate assistant positions.
Remain updated on current development in strength training and conditioning, and continuously seek to develop and grow personally and professionally.Â This includes creating an educational environment for graduate assistant and intern positions.
Ensure that policies and procedures are developed, reviewed, communicated, and implemented consistently across all programs and services.
Assist in scheduling athletic weight room times during the week as well as scheduling open gym times for general population of students and faculty on campus.
Communicate and interact with the sport coaches and athletic training staff of assigned teams as needed, but no less than once per week.
Work with the Kinesiology department faculty to establish (curriculum, reports) and maintain practicum opportunities for students within the program to gain required hours.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Education:

Bachelor's degree, preferably in kinesiology, exercise science, exercise physiology, physical education or other related degree.

Preferred Education:

Master's in kinesiology, exercise science, exercise physiology, physical education or other related degree.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

Required:Â Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)

EXPERIENCEÂ

Required:

A minimum of one year strength & conditioning coaching experience at the collegiate level

Preferred:

3-5 years of strength & conditioning coaching experience at the collegiate level

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Required:

Must possess positive leadership and communication skills to promote a positive team attitude.
Must be well-organized and flexible to meet time, priority, and workload demands.
Must be available to work flexible hours, including early morning and weekend hours.
Must be able to maintain relationships, build trust, and act as a mentor & guide to students.
Must have the ability to work with a diverse constituency including students, parents, coaches, faculty, staff, administrators, and outside contacts.
Must be physically able to demonstrate lifts and maneuvers as well as lift facility equipment.
Must have working knowledge of appropriate computer software.
Must have a relationship with Christ

WORK ENVIRONMENTÂ

Physical Requirements:Â

Â Demonstrate and instruct proper exercise techniques, including weightlifting, speed, agility, and conditioning drills.

Frequently lift, move, and carry weights and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Stand, walk, bend, and squat for extended periods during training sessions.
Maintain a high level of personal fitness to model correct form and intensity.
Work indoors in weight room settings as well as outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Exhibit clear verbal communication in loud environments such as gyms, fields, and training facilities.
Respond quickly and physically in the event of athlete injury or safety concerns.

Schedule:

M-F, 8-10 hours per day and occasional SaturdaysÂ

This is a full-time, 12-month salaried position

TRAINING

All new hires and employees transferring into a new position will have a 90-day probationary period within which to learn the functions of the job and to be evaluated. Following the probationary period, the employee can transition to regular status, have the probationary period extended in order to receive more training, or employment can be terminated. Required compliance training is as follows:

SCREENING

All full-time positions at SEU are deemed security-sensitive and require background checks. Employees required to drive their own personal vehicle, a rental car or an SEU vehicle in performance of their duties must pass an MVR records check and meet the requirements of the Universityâs insurance carrier in order to meet the requirements of the position.
