Job Description
Maryville University is seeking a dedicated and energetic Head Coach for the Cheerleading program. The Head Coach will direct and actively recruit members for the cheer team, ensuring a dynamic and competitive atmosphere that supports both athletic and academic success. This position oversees all aspects of the cheerleading program, including supervision of coaching staff, student workers, and graduate assistants (if assigned). The Head Coach plays a key role in fostering school spirit, representing the University at athletic contests and events, and building an inclusive cheerleading program.
Responsibilities
- Direct the Cheerleading Program by scheduling and conducting practices, coaching during home basketball contests, and ensuring participants are performing throughout contests and other select University events.
- Provide oversight and guidance to coaching staff, part-time and/or volunteer coaches, student workers, and graduate assistants.
- Grow the cheer program by collaborating with Admissions on recruiting efforts, initiating and returning communications with prospective participants, meeting with prospects, and coordinating cheer tryouts.
- Coach and oversee preparation for cheer teams participating in regional and national competitions.
- Coordinate and oversee the administration of university-wide initiatives, including program marketing and evaluation, student involvement, collaboration with campus members, and budget management.
- Ensure compliance with University policies and foster a positive and inclusive team culture.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Knowledge
- Thorough understanding of cheerleading and/or dance coaching.
- Coaching experience at the high school, club, or college level.
- Experience with scheduling and budgeting.
Required Skills or Abilities
- Ability to effectively teach team and individual skills connected with program development.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multiple constituencies, including student-athletes, recruits, admissions staff, and athletic staff.
- Excellent organizational and program planning skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree required.
