| Overview |
Northern Illinois University (NIU) is accepting applications for the position of Director of Sports Nutrition. This is a full-time, 12-month position with benefits. The Director of Sports Nutrition will report directly to the Associate Athletic Director of Sports Performance. In collaboration with peer level professionals (team physicians, sports medicine, sports performance coaches, sports psychologists, sport specific coaches and athletic administrators), the Director of Sports Nutrition will manage and deliver comprehensive nutritional services to our student-athletes and athletic teams.

Northern Illinois University, chartered in 1895, is a comprehensive teaching and research institution with over 19,000 currently enrolled students and houses seven (7) degree-granting colleges—Business, Education, Engineering and Engineering Technology, Health and Human Sciences, Law, Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Visual and Performing Arts. Centrally located in DeKalb, Northern Illinois University is 30 miles west of Aurora, 65 miles west of Chicago, 36 miles west of Naperville, and 45 miles southeast of Rockford.

| Position Summary |
The Director of Sports Nutrition will manage the day-to-day operations of the Nutrition Center, providing expert sport nutrition resources, education, consulting, and research. This position will collaborate with administration, team physicians, athletic training, strength and conditioning, sport psychology, and coaches to support each team and individual student-athlete.

| Essential Duties and Responsibilities |
Dietary Supplement Distribution & Education
- Educate student-athletes, coaches, and peers on how to optimize health and athletic performance through effective dietary habits.
- Evaluate and assess the dietary practices of intercollegiate student-athletes.
- Provide individualized nutritional plans for student-athletes to promote the achievement of short-term and long-term goals for athletic performance and optimal health.
- Educate student-athletes, coaches and support staff in lifestyle nutritional skills, including but not limited to proper food selection strategies in the grocery store, food storage, pre-game menu choices, during game fuel choices, post-game/ practice fuel choices.
- Oversee a staff dedicated to managing the Nutrition Center. This includes the recruiting, hiring, scheduling and mentoring of hourly employees, interns and volunteers as well as the supervision, planning and delivery of snacks for athletes.
- Utilize a firm understanding of NCAA supplements, including permissible, impermissible and banned substances.
- Work with team physicians on the recommendations of vitamins, minerals, and supplements for student-athletes who have medical indications.

1. Possession of current Registered Dietitian licensure from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulations and credentials and registration from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

3. Knowledge of nutritional assessment methods used to maintain nutritional status of patients and to develop and implement nutritional care plans for patients.

5. Ability to learn university and departmental policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
6. Ability to learn departmental standards of nutritional care.

- Bachelor’s degree in food and nutrition sciences or Dietetics, Exercise Physiology or related field.
- Minimum of two (2) years of working experience in nutritional counseling with an emphasis on intercollegiate sports nutrition.
- Master’s degree in food sciences or nutrition or Exercise Physiology.
- Specific work experience and knowledge as a Sports Dietitian with NCAA Division I athletics.
- Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) preferred or encouraged within one year of hire.
