Job Summary

The Assistant Track/Cross Country Coach is will assist the Head Track/Cross Country Coach with all facets of the program; to include organization, development, and leadership of a highly competitive Division Il athletic program in support of the mission and core values of Tuskegee University.

Essential Job Duties

• Assist the Head Coach with the management, administration, teaching, and instruction of all activities related to the Track & Field program and exercises including the direct supervision of teaching, instruction, recruiting, training, and coaching student-athletes participating in the sport.
• Enable the achievement of a quality, competitive track program and supports the educational goals of individual student-athletes.
• Protects the integrity of the sport coached and the reputation by ensuring that recruiting activities, student-athlete eligibility determination, scholarships and financial aid programs, scheduled practice sessions, and related activities governed by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) are in compliance with NCAA rules and regulations as well as applicable conference rules and University policies.
• Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of diverse backgrounds.
• Contributes to the overall success of the University’s intercollegiate athletics program by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including representing the Head Track and Cross Country.

Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training)

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

• 1 year of full-time verifiable coaching experience

• Must have knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations

Physical Demands

This position may involve frequent banding, moving, lifting and carrying material weighing up to 50 pounds. This position requires standing six hours each day, working under all weather conditions and exposure to high noise levels. Additional physical demands include but not limited to physical involvement in all practices and workouts with players. 

Skills and Attributes

Knowledge:

• Must have knowledge of NCCA rules and regulations pertaining to the recruitment and retention of student-athletes.

Skills:

• Must have effective coaching techniques and skills.
• Extensive knowledge of individual and team skills with the ability to teach these skills.

Ability:

• Ability to work nontraditional hours to include nights, weekends, and some holidays.
