Required
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Previous football coaching or play experience a the collegiate or high school level.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to the academic and athletic development of student-athletes.
- Proficiency with video analysis tools (e.g., Hudl) and standard computer applications.
Preferred
- Master’s degree in a related field.
- Experience in NCAA Division II football or similar competitive environment.
- Familiarity with Lone Star Conference regulations and culture.
Primary Responsibilities
Position Summary:
Sul Ross State University, a member of NCAA Division II and the Lone Star Conference, invites applications for the position of Assistant Football Coach. This full-time role is responsible for assisting with all aspects of the football program, including on-field coaching, recruiting, academic support, and operations. The successful candidate will contribute to player development, team culture, and program success.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development and implementation of practice plans and game strategies.
- Coach a designated position group and contribute to team success on and off the field.
- Participate in scouting, film breakdown, and opponent analysis.
- Recruit prospective student-athletes and maintain communication throughout the recruiting process.
- Monitor academic progress of student-athletes and promote a culture of accountability.
- Support travel planning, equipment management, and camp operations as assigned.
- Represent the football program in community engagement and university functions.
- Ensure compliance with NCAA, Lone Star Conference, and university regulations and policies.
Work Environment:
- Evening and weekend hours required during the football season and recruiting cycles.
- Travel required for games, recruiting, and camps.
- Physical activity required for practice demonstration and sideline duties.
Other Information
Texas Law requires a 60 day waiting period before new state employees are eligible to enroll in health insurance.

The report also contains information about crime statistics for the three most recent calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in On-Campus Student Housing Facilities; in Non-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University or a recognized student organization; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus. The report also contains fire statistics for any fires occurring in an On-Campus Student Housing Facility during the three most recent calendar years.
