Job Purpose
Communications & Creative Content Assistant is responsible for assisting in all aspects of communications, electronic media production and sports information relating to the College of Charleston’s 19 intercollegiate sports.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree required. Minimum of one year post-college experience or equivalent experience as undergraduate student assistant serving in an athletics communications position involving social media strategy & content creation, media relations, printed materials development and production, athletics event reporting, project management and statistical information development.
Preferred: Master’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field.
Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required:
- Ability to speak, read and write clearly and concisely.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Past experience working in InDesign & Photoshop and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, image-editing and web-editing software
- Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information
- Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines
- Strong initiative to solve problems
- Able to work well with interdepartmental teams and initiatives
- Ability and willingness to build rapport with diverse group of student athletes, coaches, administrators, media, and other key constituents
- Demonstrated ability to think creatively and engage a variety of stakeholders, particularly students and other on campus groups
- Proficient in copy writing, editing using AP style guidelines, proofreading and composition
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that includes night and weekend hours
- Ability to gain and maintain working knowledge of University, CAA, and NCAA rules and regulations
- Ability to gain and maintain working knowledge of NCAA rules and compliance issues as they pertain to publicity and promotional efforts
Preferred:
- Knowledge and proficiency in scorekeeping, inputting and compiling statistics for all sports using a variety of different programs such as CBS StatCrew, Golfstat and NCAA Live Stats, etc.
- Digital photography experience
- Experience with SideArm platform
- Experience working with coaching staff and administrators daily
- Working knowledge of university, CAA, and NCAA rules and regulations
Additional Comments Regarding Position
Travel will be required as deemed necessary by the Director of Communications & Creative Content.

Serves as the primary communications contact for Women’s Basketball, and other assigned Olympic Sports including soccer & tennis, developing content strategy and creating dynamic content for those programs. Assist in the development of relationships with local, regional, and national media members to increase coverage of College of Charleston Athletics. Manage and schedule team media days to include team and individual photos, interviews, awards and any other media related needs.

Serves as a member of the Athletics Department’s external team, helping generate fan engagement, attendance at athletics events and revenue generation. Supports creation and management of content and production calendars pertaining to the dissemination of social media posts, pre- and post-game digital content, press releases, results, statistics, game notes, features, podcasts, record books, team rosters, archives and more.

Maintain close contact with athletic governing bodies (NCAA, CAA) as Athletic Communications liaison; monitor submission guidelines for national-level student-athlete awards nominations. Craft and submit nominations for student-athletes using up-to-date information from coaches. Design and write sport publications and graphics related to varsity sports.
Produce and submit necessary personnel and statistical reports as required by and in compliance with CAA and NCAA guidelines.
