Job Description
This is a 10 month position from August 16th – June 15th.
The Assistant Coach will work with the Head Coach in the athletic development of student-athletes on the team with specific coaching responsibilities for our Development Squad, including the Third Varsity Eight, Fourth Varsity Eight and Walk-On Group. The coach will be responsible for the identification, evaluation, and communication with walk-on student-athletes.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three (3) years experience in a high performance rowing environment.
Skills and Knowledge
- Outstanding organizational skills – with a particular emphasis on internet and social media communication.
- Excellent knowledge of training in a high-performance rowing environment
- The capacity to work effectively with peers, and in a self-directive manner after collective goal-setting establishes objectives
- Strong teaching and personal communication skills
- Understanding of all NCAA rules and regulations relating to the sport of rowing
- Knowledge of rigging, equipment repair, trailer driving, video analysis and recruiting software all pluses.
Responsibilities
Assisting the Head Coach in the athletic development of student-athletes on the team. This coach will have specific coaching responsibilities with our “Development Squad”. This group of athletes is the least experienced and requires much instruction and oversight.
Logistics:
- Make all necessary team and recruiting travel arrangements. Including flight reservations, hotel reservations, ground transportation, per diem and meals.
- Assist with annual Nike gear team order.
Operations:
- Organization of equipment servicing including team truck, engines, trailer and boats.
- Update or repair equipment including ergometers, rowperfects, oars, etc..
- Ensure that all registrations are up to date and properly placed on all equipment.
Recruiting:
- Assist in implementing the program’s overall recruiting strategy with the goal of attracting top prospective student-athletes to Syracuse University. This will include the identification, evaluation and communication with prospective student-athletes through multiple sources including but not limited to social media and recruiting software.
- Responsible for building and maintaining a robust walk-on database.
NCAA Compliance:
- Provide all necessary paperwork to the Compliance Department for official and unofficial visits, junior days, team forms and CARA logs.
