The coach is responsible for organizing and administering all operations of the Emory & Henry men’s and women’s cross country programs and assisting with the Emory & Henry men’s and women’s track and field distance programs, all under the direction of the Director of Cross Country and Track and Field.

About this position

The Assistant Track and Field Coach position is a 10-month, limited appointment. The coach is responsible for organizing and administering all operations of the Emory & Henry men’s and women’s cross country programs and assisting with the Emory & Henry men’s and women’s track and field distance programs, all under the direction of the Director of Cross Country and Track and Field.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

• Recruiting and retaining quality student-athletes.
• Preparing athletes and teams for competition.
• Practice organization.
• Mentoring student-athletes/player evaluations.
• Organizing, directing, and supervising a staff of assistant coaches.
• Operating within allotted program budget.
• Coordinating participation in all organized team fundraising initiatives.
• Coordinating practice and event schedules.
• Game management/coordinating team travel to away events.
• Promoting the athletic program, and attending Athletic Department staff meetings.
• Directing the program within the guidelines of NCAA, Conference and Institutional rules and regulations.

Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Competitive and/or Coaching Experience at the high school or collegiate level.
• Experience recruiting and retaining a diverse group of successful student-athletes.
• Strong commitment to the academic achievements of the student-athlete.
• Demonstrated commitment to student-athlete character development.
• Ability to communicate and organize with student-athletes within the rules and regulations of EHC, SAC and NCAA DII.
• Ability to work well within a diverse staff and environment.
• Ability to set challenging goals and seek continuous improvement.
• Ability to contribute to a positive work environment.
• Ability to demonstrate leadership characteristics within athletics and throughout the university
