About This Role:
The Assistant Athletics Director for Student Athlete Success provides strategic oversight and daily management of academic support services, and student-athlete development initiatives. Reporting to the Associate Athletics Director, this position plays a critical role in ensuring the department’s adherence to NCAA, conference, university, and system regulations. The role serves as a key liaison between Athletics and campus stakeholders to promote student-athlete success, foster institutional integrity, and advance departmental initiatives, including community engagement, life skills programming and acts as the advisor for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities:
Student-Athlete Support & Program Oversight
- Assist in overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of the athletic department and ensuring the smooth functioning of sports programs.
- Support academic services for student-athletes including advisement, class registration, 1-on-1 at-risk meetings, grade checks, and study hall.
- Serve as the primary coordinator for all student-athlete support services such as student well-being and addressing academic and personal athletic needs.
- Advisor for the Student-Athlete Advisor Committee (SAAC).
- Support mission and vision of Lamar University Athletics and Lamar University with integrity and in compliance with all NCAA, conference, and university rules, policies, and procedures.
- Provide support to coaches and staff for Teamworks Hub and Teamworks Academics.
- Coordinate summer bridge and life skills programming for student-athletes.
- Supervise senior academic advisors (athletics).
- Assist the Associate Athletics Director with the NCAA academic certification process.
University & Community Engagement
- Assist the senior leadership staff of the Department of Athletics and provide input into departmental execution.
- Serve and assist on interview search committees and promote collaboration and unity across university and athletics staff.
- Provide direct support for community engagement opportunities and contribute to fundraising efforts for the athletic department.
- Other duties may be assigned to this position on a regular or occasional basis to respond to the needs of the university.

- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively between academic departments, administrative offices, NCAA, and conference to ensure a cohesive and compliant educational environment.
- Proven track record with building and maintaining positive professional relationships to provide education and guidance to coaches, athletes, and staff regarding rules and regulations governing collegiate athletics.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate life skills programming, and provide training and guidance to student-athletes, coaches, and staff on academic and compliance matters.
- Proven experience and success in finding innovative and creative opportunities to identify areas for improvement within academic processes and compliance efforts, implementing changes as needed.
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences and foster a positive, team-oriented environment.
Physical Requirements: This position required sitting and standing for extended periods of time and lifting to 25 pounds while performing the essential functions as described within the essential job functions.

| Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor’s Degree in a field relevant to the position summary and essential job functions.
- 1-3 years’ experience in athletics program management, progressively increasing responsibility and experience working in higher education, college athletics or professional sports or equivalent; master’s degree preferred.
