| Overview |
Northern Illinois University (NIU) is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Athletic Trainer. This is a full-time, 12-month position with benefits. Under the general supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer, this position is responsible for assisting in the management and administration of all phases of the athletic training operations. Northern Illinois University, chartered in 1895, is a comprehensive teaching and research institution with over 15,000 currently enrolled students and houses seven (7) degree-granting colleges—Business, Education, Engineering and Engineering Technology, Health and Human Sciences, Law, Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Visual and Performing Arts. Centrally located in DeKalb, Northern Illinois University is 30 miles west of Aurora, 65 miles west of Chicago, 36 miles west of Naperville, and 45 miles southeast of Rockford.

| Position Summary |
The Assistant Athletic Trainer will provide health care and health education to student-athletes of assigned sports to ensure the safety of, reduce the risk of injury to, and guide the rehabilitation of those student-athletes.

| Essential Duties and Responsibilities |
Athletic Training Services – 35%
- Provide athletic training services to sports as assigned; Services include prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and coverage of practices/contests as deemed necessary and assigned by the head athletic trainer.
Medical Record Retention – 25%
- Maintain complete medical records for assigned teams, including insurance referrals, daily treatments, physician referrals, and injury reports in conformity with the Athletic Training Policies and Procedures.
Relations & Teamwork – 15%
- Maintain positive relationships with team physicians and medical specialists.
Supervision – 10%
- Provide direct supervision of graduate student athletic training students and field crew.
Departmental Needs – 5%
- Assist with departmental needs as requested.
- Promote public relations beneficial to the university, the athletic department and the profession.
Licensure – 5%
- Maintain working knowledge of advances in the field as well as current membership in the National Athletic Trainers Association, Inc. and the Illinois Athletic Trainers Association, Inc. Maintain State of Illinois Licensure.
Safety & Student Athlete Well-Being – 5%
- Work in cooperation with athletic department staff to access available resources concerning the following areas of athletic care: safe and protective athletic equipment and facilities, nutrition, recognition and education of substance abuse, personal and mental hygiene, first aid and CPR.

1. Bachelor’s Degree required.
2. N.A.T.A. Certification.
3. Eligible to meet Illinois Athletic Trainer Registration requirements.
4. Athletic training experience in school or clinic setting.
5. Experience as a certified athletic trainer.

1. Ability to communicate with and relate well to student-athletes, coaching and department support staff.
2. Ability to effectively communicate through oral, written and electronic forms.
3. As a staff member within the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, you are responsible for knowledge of and compliance with National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) regulations, both those general in nature and those which apply directly to your position’s responsibilities. Strict adherence to all applicable governing policies, procedures, and regulations of the NCAA is required and is a condition of your employment.
