Position Summary
The Assistant Athletic Trainer will assist the Head Athletic Trainer in all aspects of the health care of the intercollegiate student-athletes for the Stevenson University Athletic department. Reporting to the Head Athletic Trainer, the Assistant Athletic Trainer will assist with organizational and administrative duties as assigned, as well as supervise student workers in the Athletic Training room. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will also assist in the evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries incurred by the intercollegiate student-athletes at Stevenson University.
Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree in athletic training plus 2 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree preferred. Two years of experience working with intercollegiate athletics desired.
Valid driver license with good driving record required; must be insurable.
Knowledge/Skills/Ability
- NATA-BOC Certification, eligibility for Maryland State license, CPR, First Aid, and AED certified
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications and computer use.
- Proficiency with injury tracking software, specifically ATS.
- Knowledge and skills in the evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries incurred from participation in competitive athletics.
- Knowledge and ability to manage budgets and inventory for an Athletic Training Department.
- Ability to demonstrate effective communication skills both orally and in writing.
- Basic knowledge of NCAA rules and guidelines.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
- Ability to travel with teams as needed.
Physical Requirements
Medium Work: Exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Position involves both inside sedentary work and work on different playing surfaces (turf fields, sand court and hardwood gym floor) and on other fitness environments while coaching and training situations with student-athletes. Evening and weekend hours in all types of weather, with travel between campuses is necessary. Lifting required (ie., water, ice chests, etc.), some manual labor is expected. Because of the location of athletic facilities on each campus and potential off campus, organizing and some transportation between facilities is expected.
Essential Functions
- Work in cooperation with the Head Athletic Trainer and Associate/Assistant Athletic Trainers in all aspects of the health care of the student-athletes, such as evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries incurred by the intercollegiate student-athletes
- Manage all athletic training room functions in the absence of the Head Athletic Trainer, Associate Athletic Trainers and Team Physician
- Maintain work schedule in the athletic training room in cooperation with and as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer or Clinical Athletic Trainer
- Attend practices and all assigned home athletic events as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer
- Travel as needed with assigned intercollegiate athletic teams.
- Administer proper first aid to student-athletes on the field and in the athletic training room
- Assist the Head Athletic Trainer and Associate Athletic Trainers in the organizational and administrative duties of the athletic training room. Duties include, but are not limited to:
a. Medical record keeping utilizing our EMR system
b. Supervision of work-study students and athletic training student interns
c. Assist with inventory
d. Organize pre-participation physicals and screenings for student-athletes
e. Treatment and rehabilitation of student-athletes
f. Pre-season preparation and practices
g. Handling of secondary insurance claims
h. Maintenance of all athletic training supplies and equipment
i. Development, implementation, and enforcement of athletic training policies and procedures under the guidance of the Head Athletic Trainer
j. Other duties deemed necessary by the Head Athletic Trainer
- Serve on committees as needed
- Work within the Arms and Teamworks Hub software to communicate schedules and manage rosters/eligibility status while working with the compliance team.
- Work with Institutional Advancement to aid in fundraising initiatives and to promote the Campaign for Mustang Athletics on an annual basis.
